We took students to the location where the demonstration plots are located. We conducted training there. There were three teachers and Assistant head Mistress.

Purpose of the visit
• To deliver bean seeds, fertilizers and pesticides
Topics
1. Greetings
Roger delivered greetings from Augustana Lutheran and St. Paul Area Synod.

• Discussion about germination, Replanting, Pest, weeding after planting, monthly weeding after tasseling
3. Demonstration on second fertilizer application on corn
There was demonstration on planting and fertilization of beans on rows 30cm apart and 10cm between plants. Also there was a demonstration on how do second applications of fertilizer in corn
4. Insecticide Application.
We instructed them on how to apply the insecticide on both corn and beans and the recommended rates to apply.

We delivered been seeds, fertilizers and insecticides

Corn and Bean Plots Discussion
Corn was planted on January 6, 2011. This is late planting. The headmistress said that they could not plant in December because the students were in Vacation. We do encourage early planting but for the secondary school schedule, it is sometimes difficult to implement this. The spacing is wider than what are required. The plot needs immediate weeding. We instructed them to do it as soon as possible. Bean has not yet been planted. We instructed them to prepare the plot and plant beans. The area has been getting good rainfall so far.

Questions
 How should we use the pesticides?
Measure 30mls of Thionex and put it in the containers contain 15Litres of water, and then spray in the field. Please remember to read other instructions in the bottle before starting using the pesticides
 Pesticides are poisonous, will they have side effect in human health?
Yes pesticides are poisonous; we use then to kill insects in crops. However, it has been proved that when used in accordance with the way it has instructed and when used at the appropriate amount and time. It has no major side effects in the health of human being. Remember to read instructions

Conclusion
We instructed them that they should change the way they manage the plot. There should be one person who will be a demonstration plot supervisor whose job will be to plan and manage the activities of the training. There should be a permanent group of students taking care the demonstration plots. The way the plots performed last year was not impressive. We expect improvement this year
