Introduction
There was a big audience of 32 people full of passion waiting to attend the meeting. The village chairman also attended the meeting. The village has a total population of 2170. According to the village chairman, just a quarter of this total are the people able to perform work (workforce), the rest are the children, the old and the unable to carry out any productive work.
Purpose of the visit
• To make follow-up on the CVP progress and solve any arising problems; the inputs were delivered earlier.
• Demonstrating second fertilizer application and insecticide application
Topics covered
• Review of the handouts
- 3rd Visit Instruction
- Plant population and Fertilizer applications
• Demonstrations:
2nd Fertilizer application;
We took time to demonstrate on how to do the 2nd fertilizer application on corn plants and cautioned that the fertilizer be placed at least 5cm away from the plant to avoid any fertilizer injury.
• Corn plants, beans and pyrethrum
We did not see the corn field because it is away from the church and we had to drive back before it rains, but the parishioners told us the corn plants were doing well at knee high height.
The parishioners had not planted beans yet; they said beans would be planted later.
Pyrethrum was planted a week before and the seedlings were taking up.
Comments/Questions
The parishioners asked a good number of questions pertaining to the three crops; corn beans and pyrethrum and also asked many questions on fertilizers and the insecticide we brought for the control of pests. We answered all the questions and the audience was full of enthusiasm with the knowledge they were receiving.
Deliveries
We delivered 2 bags of NPK cereal fertilizers, one spray pump and one litre of thionex pesticide.
Conclusion:
The attendees and the Pastor seemed interested with the teaching. They are likely to do well.
