The plants are at knee high. Both corn and bean plots are doing well. Corn has been attacked by maize stalk borer but the pests were controlled by pesticides. Bean plot is affectd by aphids few plants were drying . We told them to spray a pesticides as soon as possible to kill he aphids, hoping that will prevent them from speading disease. Questions/Comments from Audience  When bean plants get to the stage of flowering, they turn yellow and leaves drop, why? This might be cused by effects of aphids. Spray pesticides when you notice there aphids in your plot. However sometimes the leaf dropping can be the sign of water stressing. Make sure you plant as earlier as possible to use well the rain obtained during the rain season.  What kind of fertilizers can I use? For corn use DAP or NPK 23-10-5 at the time of planting and Urea, CAN or NPK 23-10-5. For beans use NPK 15-9-20.  Sometimes I plant corn and beans but the germination do not take place, especially when I use fertilizers, why? When you plant with fertilizers, make sure fertilizer applied and seeds are not mixed. If you mix them the fertilizers will affect the seeds leading into germination failure.  How many times should I apply fartilizers in the bean? Apply fertilizers once in the bean farm.  Can we use herbicides to control weeds? Yes, if you can affort to buy them then you can use them. Make sure you follow instructions on how to dilute and apply. Discussion and Conclusion The group that attended the meeting was very active. The extension officer of this ward assisted us in training farmers. We were very impressed by his cooparations and contribution.
