Greetings
Greetings were delivered from the St. Paul Area Synod and the Iringa Diocese by Roger Blomquist. Roger also gave a summary of what we are instructing them to do on our demonstration plot and the importance of utilizing these techniques on their own farms.

Review of the handouts
• 4rd Visit Instruction with information on the important of regular weeding, bean planting, fertilizer placement and pesticide application.

• Delivery
Type/Variety Amount
Bean seeds Wanja 40kg
Fertilizers NPK 2 bags
CAN 2 bags
Pesticides Thionex ½ Liter

Corn;
They planted corn generally following the recommend spacing and have good germination, though they have some spots with yellow leaves which we think is Nitrogen deficiency or sulfur deficiency. We asked them to apply Nitrogenous fertilizer and then we will observe if the problem will persist.

Beans;
The plot is right outside the church as well as the corn plot. The bean plot has not been planted but they are expecting to plant as soon as possible.

Questions

1. What is the best time for 2nd fertilizer application?
The best time for 2nd fertilizer application is after 60 days as it is explained in one of the handouts we went through.

2. What are the fertilizers used for planting corn and beans?
At the moment there are two widely used fertilizers for planting corn and beans in this region which are NPK and DAP and in our demonstration plots we use NPK for planting both bean and corn.

3. How long does it take for beans from planting to harvesting?
It depends mostly on variety you plant and weather condition of the area.

Conclusion
Pastor insisted on using the techniques even on a small area because they have seen the advantages of using them.
