Weather Dry and cool
Reporters Gabriel and Venance
Introduction
It was dry and cold as we arrived at Ilogombe where we met five members of the church waiting to learn the modern agriculture techniques.
Purpose of the visit
• To explain and demonstrate how to take yield measurement
Topics
1. Went through the handouts
o 5th Visit handout
o Yield recording sheet
2. Demonstrations
We demonstrated how to measure the 10 m row (in three different locations within the demonstration plot) for the yield determination; this was demonstrated by using a tape, counting & recording the corn plants and ears and marking the lines by breaking the tassels of corn.
3. Crop storage
We instructed the villagers on how to store the crops. The advantages of storing crops for long give a farmer a chance to sell that crop when the price is high enough and also ensure food security in the household
4. Marketing
We reminded them that this is the time that they should start to explore various marketing options. It's important they seek market information so as to keep up to date with the crop prices
Plots information
Corn plants were at drying stage. The crop stand t appeared exciting; parishioners were enthusiastic with their crop and said they received many questions from other village members and passersby who wanted to know what type of seed they had planted and what they did to make their crop look so well.
The pyrethrum plot was also doing well.
We didn’t see the bean plot which is located a distance from the church but the parishioners told us it was doing well.
Comments
The parishioners were happy that the corn seed they planted this year was not rotting
Conclusion
The parishioners believe that each year they participate on the CVP they gain more knowledge on modern farming and therefore hope to harvest more crops this year than what they harvested last year.

Ilogombe is another distantly located village and the road conditions are not reliable during the rainy season; we had to deliver corn and bean seeds this time of the year. Upon our arrival, we met a few members of the church waiting at the church premises. We started the meeting immediately so that we could finish in time and travel to Kipanga parish.
Purposes of the visit:
• To see the pyrethrum nursery.
• To demonstrate on planting of corn and beans.
• To deliver corn seeds, bean seeds and fertilizers
Topics
1. Review of the handouts
• 3rd Visit Instruction
• Plant population with 60 cm. rows and Fertilizer applications
• Fertilizer needs template
2. Pyrethrum nursery
We did not get enough time to see their pyrethrum nursery but they said they have a good nursery which will supply them seedlings to meet their need and other people as well.
3. Demonstration
Ilogombe village is doing the CVP for the second time; therefore required a thorough demonstration on planting corn and beans and fertilizer applications; we did the demonstrations and insisted to put fertilizers about 5 cm away from the seeds.
4. Rain record sheets
We gave them the rainfall record sheets and insisted that they should continue recording the amount of rain that falls.
5. Delivery
We delivered corn and bean seeds and fertilizers
Item Corn Beans Fertilizers for corn Fertilizers for beans
Variety TMV Uyole 96 NPK cereal NPK winner
Amount 8kg 30kg 2 bags 2 bags
Conclusion
Last season the parish did not do well with the corn and beans. They did very well with the pyrethrum though the size of the plot was small for the reason that they did not get adequate quantity of seedlings. We hope they will perform well in the coming season because we have delivered good quality seed and the deliveries have been done on time. They asked a few questions to the pyrethrum guy who answered them accordingly.

Purpose of the visit

Topics
1. Went through the handouts
o 5th Visit handout
o Yield recording sheet
2. Demonstrations
We demonstrated how to measure the 10 m row (in three different locations within the demonstration plot) for the yield determination, this was demonstrated by using a tape measure and breaking corn plant tassels to mark the demarcations within which the measurements should be taken.
Plots information
Their corn plants looked good, although there were many gaps between plants and the lines were widely spaced. The reason for the gaps resulted from poor germination which happened when they planted. The plot was well weeded. The corn was at maturing stage.
The beans looked good too. The bean plot was well weeded and the plants were at leafy stage just before flowering.
This congregation is growing pyrethrum as well. Pyrethrum plant survival was good and the plot was well weeded.
Comments
Members are working hard to follow instructions. It takes time to be able to follow all the practices correctly, but since it’s their first time to practice, they are likely to perform well in the second and subsequent years.
Conclusion
They were advised to practice the methods they learned in their own plots.
