Corn and Bean Plots Discussion
Corn and bean plots are located in the village farm land, outside the village. The Corn was planted on December 12, 2012. Plants are about knee high. We told them that the time to do second application of fertilizer is close. Bean will be planted in February. The spacing is as what is recommended and plants look good. There was rodents’ outbreak at the time of germination. Some of the seeds were eaten before germination. There number of plant gaps in the field due to this problem.
Pyrethrum
Pyrethrum will be transplanted in February. The pyrethrum plot will be located in the village. The church elders will determine the location this week. We advised them to start tilling the land as soon as possible.
Questions from Audience
Are we going to do minimum tillage in beans too?
Yes, minimum tillage should be practiced in the bean plot too as instructed. Minimum tillage helps to conserve moisture, reduce soil erosion and improve soil fertility of the area.
There pests eating or cutting bean plots in our village, what should we do?
We have come with the pesticides called Thionex. Spray it in the bean plot as it has been instructed. If a problem persists, please contact us for more instructions
Conclusion
They were interested with the micro-finance discussion. They said that they are going to discuss with other villagers and see the possibility of establishing SACCOS in their village with the purpose of financing agricultural activities.
