Purpose of the visit
The purpose of the visit is to demonstrate and give instructions on yield measurement.
Topics
Went through the handouts
• 5th Visit handout
• Yield recording sheet
• Rain record sheets to know the amount of rain received during this season
Demonstrations
We demonstrated how to measure the 10m row of beans and rice and collect the required data of plant population and yield. Beans and rice plot were still on the field but had already harvested corn.
Plots information
Corn was planted in half an acre and they didn’t get yield as was expected because they didn’t get enough rain and water for irrigation. Beans were planted on the irrigated land and they looks doing well and they planted in a quarter an acre as well as rice.
Comments
• As we were discussing with them the kind of yield they expect to get this season they should also consider to compare between years from the first year, second and the third year they are now.
• They had problems with practicing minimum tillage. I told them how easy it is so long as they follow our recommendations on how to go about and the benefits of leaving crop residues on the farm.
Conclusion
We wanted them to take all the needed data from corn and beans, rice and record them on the paper sheet we provided.
