Topics
1. Greetings
Don and Karen delivered greetings from Christiania Lutheran-Lakeville, St. Paul, Saint Paul Area Synod and US Ag Advisory Committee. He spoke about the importance of getting the right yield measurements and explained why they are highly needed.
2. Went through the handouts
o 5th Visit handout
o Yield recording sheet
o Rain record sheets to know the amount of rain received during this season
3. Demonstrations
We demonstrated how to measure the 10 m row (in three different locations within the demonstration plot) for the yield determination, this was demonstrated by using a miter tape, we used spray paint to mark the demarcations within which the measurements should be taken.
Plots information
Corn plot looks good; the ears are big and well filled. Spacing is okay. They are matured but not yet dried. The crop looks better than that of last year.
Bean plot has already been harvested.
Comments
They are grateful for the extension of the program from three years to four years.
When asked if they use the techniques taught, most of the said yes, though they do not use all of the. Input such as fertilizers and seeds are expensive hence major obstacle
Conclusions
We encouraged them to keep the good work. We told them next year we would like to see many of them taking these practices to their farms. We will be back on July or August to take the yield data.
