As we were going to Pommern we gave a ride to the District Pastor and other congregation Members who came to Iringa town the day before today. In the demonstration meeting we had two Pastors from this area, Rev. Jenro Kivamba who is the Parish Pastor and Rev. Himidi Sagga who is the district Pastor of this area.
Purpose of the visit
• Bean planting demonstration
• Fertilizer applications demonstration
• Bean seeds and fertilizers delivery
Topics
1. Going through handout with attendees
4th Visit handout
2. Demonstrations
We demonstrated how to plant beans in the appropriate spacing and how to make the fertilizer application to the beans. We also demonstrated how to make the second application of fertilizer to the corn.
3. Delivery
Type/Variety Amount
Bean seeds Uyole 96 30kg
Fertilizers NPK 2 bags
CAN 2 bags
Pesticides Thionex ½ Litre
Sprayer pump Anicrop Capacity: 5 Litres
4. Plots
Corn
Plants are about 1feet. The germination has not been good and replanting was delayed. We told them that doing replanting at the right time would make plant heights uniform.
Bean
The bean plot will be planted this month
5. Discussion
There were two attendees who are using/ adopting the techniques this season. When asked about their experience they said
The minimum tillage has reduced the need of hand plowing
It has simplify the work at the farm
They are happy with the plant population they see in their farms now as they have adopt the closely space planting
Comments/Questions
They asked what should they do to prepare the bean plots as now weeds are growing faster
Try to observe the monthly weeding before and after planting
Since the type of seeds we are introduced are different, how much is required for one acre?
The type of seed variety we are trying to introduce here is called Uyole 96. We estimate that one acre will need 60kg.
Conclusion
We told them, since the plant population in the corn plot will not be good as they have delayed replanting; we expect them to do a better job in the bean plot by replanting on time. We encouraged them to follow the techniques and tell others about the demonstration plot.
